Bottle Top Bingo Addition Review

My friend Jamila, over at Successful Muslim Homeschooling made a bingo game a few weeks back. I told myself I would make one for my four year old and two year old.  It looked like a fun way to go over our addition 1 facts. I decided to do something different with this game. We have been collecting bottle tops from juice containers and decided we would use those for the bingo chips

What is great about this, is not only do they make great bingo chips but they come in different colors and sizes, which was another lesson within itself!

we used the inside of the folder to create the bingo board. Index cards for the call out facts (answers on the back) and bottle tops for chips.

It did not take a long time to collect so many tops! There are ones bigger than these that my husband used to play with the one yr old with while the others played. Chips in can but really bottle tops in a cup

The boys had a good time and we even switched, our oldest son read the cards and my husband and I even played bingo.
Our two year old did a different game. We called out the numbers and he had to find them, for number recognition

Graphing Leaves and Comparing Leaves

We had a short homeschooling week this week alhamdulilah but we were able to slide some things in today that we wanted to share with everyone.

Theres a great idea from the SEEDS Network on graphing with leaves. Not only did we take a nature walk and observed leaves the children pointed out that some of the trees did not have leaves on them. This observation helped us begin the process of explaining why leaves change color.

Tomorrow we will spend time on what helps leaves to grow, and how the weather affects them. Today we graphed the leaves by colors and how many we had of each color.

Our leaves were greeen, brown, yellow green, and purple (had lots of hints of purple in the leaves)
Takbir our oldest son, placed the leaves on the wall and Tasbeeh ..we named the colors with him also pointed to the numbers.
We then asked Takbir how many brown leaves are there and he counted them, its a good way for us to incorporate last weeks addition too, as we will use the graph to ask how any brown and green leaves all together?

We did comparisons. With this one we labeled which one was big and which one was small.
This is day one of the leaf science/ nature lesson for this week. InshaAllah we will go into more details before the end of the week. On the Habeebee Scholars In Training curriculum we have a observing insect life and nature portion.

Week 1 Macaroni Math Addition, Counting

Working with addition and counting with the children this week, we did some work with macaroni. T1 has learned his addition facts for one alhamdulilah and T2 is  working on counting and number recognition.  We used macaroni for both of them today.

Used food coloring for each of the boys' noodles

T2 placed the amount of noodles  to match the number

We like to do both their lessons with the same idea, so it was macaroni math used for addition and counting.

Week 1 Learning Tree Pre K and K

In our curriculum we recommend parents make a learning tree to show the work for the week. It is a good way to help the children remember what they are learning and it is a fun creative way to display the work. Through out the day the children will visit the tree and talk about it amongst each other and we use it during lessons

Addition and Arabic  Numbers:

Work for the week is posted around the tree.
